Executive Director's Blog 23 Feb. 2010
It is snowing again here in Hammond. Don’t get me wrong I like the snow, its purity, the beauty of a crisp winter day. I chose to live in this area and knew that snow was part of the deal.
But… I am envious of the Service Learning Program volunteers who are in Jamaica at this moment – University of Michigan Students for Global Health. Yes, they have to deal with no running water and climbing up and down steep hills but they are working in a warm place with blooming flowers and the sound of flowing water. And I have to take five minutes to put on three layers of clothes and snow boots and mittens and a hat to walk down the road to get BMP's mail (which hopefully includes lots of donations to BMP programs).
One of those unadvertised advantages of going on a service learning program trip.
Off to shovel out the driveway, yet again.
