What We Do The Blue Mountain Project works with the Jamaican Ministry of Health to provide basic health care aimed at supporting the work and vision of the St. Thomas Parish Medical Director.
The BMP
operates two rural health centers
provides basic health education
facilitates home health visit programs for the homebound
coordinates other health programs
BMP takes a community-based approach to health care. We promote a strong Public Health framework and work with local nurses and visiting health volunteers to emphasize disease prevention, health education, and health programming. The BMP works in isolated communities located near the peak of Jamaica’s Blue Mountains. The roads are in abysmal condition and access to the nearest can take anywhere from 1-2 hours by public transportation into Kingston, or a costly private taxi to St Thomas. This makes the BMP the primary healthcare provider in the Hagley Gap District.
